History

CROSS Inc,. Christian Residential Opportunities and Social Services was founded by representation from the various Peace Churches of the Cumberland Valley in 1985 to provide residential services to persons with developmental disabilities. Although, government programs did exist, CROSS wanted to offer a group home setting in an environment where Christian values are respected and taught, and where residents are encouraged to develop their fullest potential.

Grace Home , which opened in 1987 with four residents, is located near Shippensburg. In 1992, Grace Home was enlarged and four additional members joined the family. Now, eight people share a warm family environment with their houseparents and direct care staff.

In 1996, CROSS acquired Crosswinds, a beautiful property with 150 acres and rooms for six residents. Today, six ladies occupy the home called Griffith House. Both homes are designed so that each resident has their own private bedroom. They share common living areas and meals are served family style. All residents are involved in a day program with transportation being provided by CROSS. Respite care has been provided over the years to meet the need for Christian care and nurture. In 2003, Social services expanded beyond Respite care to include Coffee Houses for persons with disabilities and Camps for persons with disabilities.
