History of CROSS Inc:

Christian Residential Opportunities and Social Services (CROSS), Inc. was founded in 1985 to provide residential services to adults with developmental disabilities. Presently, three group homes –Grace Home in Shippensburg ( 8 residents), Griffith House in St. Thomas ( 6 residents) and Cumberland Vista ( 8 residents). Respite care is provided through individuals homes in the community.

Fee’s paid by the residents account for 60% of the budget. The additional 40% is raised through individuals, churches and organizations of the community. CROSS has a broad base of community support.

In the summer, we provide several weeks of camping for youth and adults with physical and mental disabilities. We rent a camp in Mercersburg and one in Carlisle and have campers from Franklin, Cumberland, Perry, York, Adams and Dauphin counties.

Camper fees cover about 50% of the expenses. We depend on the community for the remainder.

Throughout the year, CROSS sponsors and churches host evenings where we have a Coffee House for adults (14 and up) with physical and mental disabilities. There is no charge and we provide this as a service to the community. It becomes a great place for friends to visit with friends in a warm supportive environment.
